Community Impact Model
UWFC is on an important journey toward investing its resources in specific measurable achievements. We have strategically chosen this journey for the following reasons:
Community Impact represents necessary change and we are committed to its implementation in a positive and effective manner. We have learned that this process is evolutionary and is best done step-by-step. We engaged a variety of stakeholders to help us identify the results necessary to improve the quality of life for people in Fresno County .
These stakeholders helped increase our understanding of the challenges and opportunities that this change represents for local nonprofit organizations, for Fresno County and for United Way itself. We have made a series of decisions based on this understanding.
United Way of Fresno County will: Strengthen existing partnerships and establish new relationships with health and human service CPOs; POs and EOs.
Redefine partnerships to include more than money. Assist community based organizations in strengthening their organizational capacity. Increase our circle of partners. Measure success not just at the programmatic level, but at the community level. Focus on creating lasting change on critical community issues. Improve the effectiveness of our communication. Increase the communitys response to local needs. Increase awareness of the need to achieve measurable results on critical community issues. Foster collaboration on critical community issues. As we continue on our journey, with confidence, United Way of Fresno County will:
Commit to being a catalyst for widespread Community Impact.
Draw upon its expertise in identifying and addressing community needs.
Focus on results changing lives and shaping communities. Play an active and leadership role as a partner in and convener of community based organizations that achieve impact. Communities and organizations across the United States are moving toward this concept of impact in order to achieve measurable results. Our vision is to identify important impact issues and create a language, framework, and a process to improve community conditions while continuing to fund local organizations. Creating lasting changes in community conditions is challenging and requires the entire community to work together to be successful. The Community Impact Business Model includes: Identifying Fresno Countys most critical needs.
Identifying measurable indicators of community results. Identifying reliable data sources and establishing current baselines, targets, and timeframes for improvement. Assisting local organizations in identifying measurable program outcomes. Investing United Way resources in community based organizations who address critical needs.
Participating in larger community efforts to achieve community indicators of success that no one organization can achieve alone.
These will require new forms of intensive, long-term collaboration amongst nonprofit and public agencies, businesses, faith-based entities and other stakeholders.
The Board of Directors, volunteers and staff are committed to building healthy communities by focusing on long-lasting changes so our children and youth achieve their potential, individuals and families become self-sufficient and everyone is able to have access to health and supportive services.
